조선 후기의 진경산수화는 기존 산수화의 상투적인 표현에서 벗어나, 자연을 보다 사실적으로 담아낸 화풍이다. 그 속에는 우리 문화의 정체성을 보여주는 자연친화적 풍류와 해학이 은은히 배어 있다.

윤현진 작가는 “조선 시대 예술가들이 매일 마주하며 그려낸 자연의 풍경을, 오늘날 현대 공예가의 시선으로 바라본다면 어떤 모습일까?”라는 물음에서 출발해, 조선의 진경산수를 현대적 감성으로 재해석한 ‘심경산수’로 풀어냈다.

오늘날 서울은 수백 년 전과 비교해 도시의 규모, 건축의 형태와 높이까지 모든 것이 달라졌지만, 도심을 감싸는 산의 능선과 그 너머에서 전해지는 기운만큼은 여전히 그 자리를 지키고 있다.

윤 작가는 선조들이 함께 바라보았던 자연을 오늘의 시선으로 다시 마주하며, 풍류와 해학의 정신을 통해 삶을 관조하는 태도를 작품 속에 담아낸다. 그녀의 작업에는 현실 속 욕망과 소통, 유대감, 그리고 유머가 생동감 있게 녹아 있으며, 관람객은 마치 한 폭의 풍속화를 바라보는 듯한 설렘과 소박한 정취를 느끼게 된다.

작품 속 빈 공간조차 따뜻한 무심함으로 채워지며, 인간 존재에 대한 물음을 우리 삶의 이야기로 풀어낸다. 누군가 인간의 나약함과 외로움을 그려냈다면, 윤현진 작가는 만남과 이별, 질투와 부러움, 그리고 세상의 기쁨을 밝고 따뜻한 시선으로 전한다.


Late Joseon dynasty jingyeong sansuhwa (true-view landscape painting) departed from conventional and formulaic depictions, instead presenting nature with realistic observation. This approach embodies Korea’s cultural identity, filled with an affinity for nature, refined taste, and gentle humor.

Yoon Hyun Jin’s work begins with a simple question: How might the landscapes that Joseon-era artists saw and painted every day appear through the eyes of a contemporary craft artist? From this curiosity, she has reimagined the true-view landscapes of the past as modern mindscape paintings.

Today, Seoul has transformed dramatically over centuries—its scale, the shape and height of its buildings, and every facet of urban life have changed. Yet the ridgelines and the energy of the surrounding mountains remain constant, connecting past and present.

Through her work, Yoon invites us to share in the natural world that our ancestors cherished and to rediscover the contemplative leisure inspired by their spirit of humor and appreciation of beauty.

Her art is characterized by a vibrant sense of reality, desire, communication, and warmth. Like a genre painting capturing the joys and sorrows of daily life, her works evoke both excitement and simplicity, filling even empty spaces with a quiet, gentle presence. While some may ask questions about the nature of human existence, Yoon tells stories of our shared lives. And where others might depict human frailty and loneliness, she instead reveals the brightness and warmth of the world—encounters and farewells, envy and longing, and the pleasures that make life rich.
