Son Jung Kee’s work evokes the profound loneliness of a solitary figure standing within vast nature. The artist believes that reflecting on the question “How should we live?” is the most essential pursuit in life, and that such inquiry must unfold through a journey inward.

He maintains that voluntary silence and periods of solitude are necessary to descend into one’s inner depths. For this reason, he hopes his artworks will awaken the viewer’s own sense of loneliness, serving as a point of departure for each person’s journey of introspection.

Through the landscapes of solitude and quiet that appear in his pieces, he wishes for viewers to encounter their own sense of desolation and draw closer to the truths of their individual lives.

Son uses images of nature as symbolic elements. In his work, trees represent human beings: even when broken or cut down, they sprout again and persevere—just as people, though hurt or fallen, rise and continue on with resilience.
