모래를 그린다.

붓 끝으로 한 점 한 점 찍어낸 모래 알갱이는 단순한 재현을 넘어, 부서졌지만 완전히 사라지지 않은 존재의 흔적이다. 작가는 이 과정을 ‘존재가 다시 태어나는 순간’이라 부른다. 그의 모래는 사라진 것이 아니라 여전히 살아 있는 감각이며, 할머니의 손길처럼 따뜻하고 오래된 계절의 기억처럼 조용하게 다가온다. 바다가 아닌 작업실에서 쌓아올린 모래성은 무너지지 않기를 바라는 마음의 형상이 된다. 그 위에 찍히는 점들은 기도처럼 반복되며, 시간의 침전 위에 감정을 새긴다. 작품 속 모래섬과 항아리는 작가의 내면을 반영하는 조형이다. 항아리는 점묘의 축적 속에서 성찰과 성장의 과정을 담아내며, 언젠가 무너질지도 모른다는 불안을 품은 채 넓은 마음을 지향한다.

김성엽의 점은 시간이고 기억이며, 감정의 단면이다.
흘러가지만 사라지지 않는 모래처럼, 작업은 삶의 유연한 본질을 조용히 응시한다.

이번 전시는 반복되는 점과 쌓이는 시간의 감각을 통해, 상실과 불안, 회복과 성장의 과정을 시각적으로 구성한다. 부서지더라도 끝내 남겨지는 것들에 대한 이야기이며, 우리가 잊지 않고 껴안아야 할 감정의 흔적을 조형 언어로 형상화한다.

Each grain of sand, placed dot by dot with the tip of a brush, is more than a reproduction—it is a trace of existence that, though fractured, has not disappeared. The artist refers to this as “the moment existence is reborn.” For him, sand is not something lost, but a sensation still alive—warm like a grandmother’s touch, quiet like the memory of a distant season. A sandcastle built not by the sea but in the studio becomes a symbol of a fragile wish: that it will not collapse. The dots placed upon it repeat like a prayer, inscribing emotion atop the sediment of time.

The islands of sand and jars depicted in his works are visual metaphors for the artist’s inner world. The jars, formed through the accumulation of pointillism, embody a process of introspection and growth. They hold within them the anxiety of eventual collapse, yet reach toward a broader, more generous state of being.

For Kim Seongyup, the dot is time, memory, and a cross-section of emotion.
Like sand that flows yet never fully disappears, his work quietly contemplates the flexible essence of life.

This exhibition constructs a visual language of loss, anxiety, healing, and growth through the rhythm of repetition and the accumulation of time. It is a reflection on what remains even after things fall apart—an attempt to shape, through form, the emotional residues we continue to carry.
