우리는 소비의 편리함 속에서 수많은 물건을 만들고, 사용하고, 버린다. 하지만 버려진 것들은 단순한 폐기물이 아니라, 예술과 새로운 시선을 통해 새로운 가치와 가능성을 발견할 기회가 되기도 한다.

포리 심 작가는 업사이클링 아트(upcycling art)를 기반으로 버려진 플라스틱과 산업 폐기물에 새로운 생명력을 담은 미술품으로 변화시키는 작업을 한다. 한때 쓸모를 잃고 버려졌던 재료들은 작가의 손을 거쳐 키덜트적 감성과 동화적 세계관이 깃든 로봇 형상으로 재구성된다. 무생명체인 로봇은 작가의 작업 안에서 감정과 생명력을 대리하는 조형적 상징으로 표현한다. 작품은 재료 고유의 질감과 구조를 살리면서도, 강렬한 색채와 입체적 구성을 통해 단순한 재활용을 넘어선 시각적 전환을 시도한다. 산업 폐기물의 흔적을 품은 조각들은 소비 이후 남겨진 재료를 조형적으로 재구성하며, 물질의 새로운 가능성을 드러낸다. 익숙함을 전환의 지점으로 삼는 작업은 환경에 대한 질문을 조형적으로 구성하고, 그로부터 또 다른 가능성을 제시한다.

이번 전시는 버려진 사물이 감각적 구조와 상상력을 통해 생명력 있는 존재로 전환되는 과정을 시각화한다. 일상 속에서 무심히 지나쳤던 사물들을 다시 바라보게 하는 시선을 제안하며, 지속 가능한 삶을 위한 예술의 역할에 질문을 던진다.

In the convenience of consumption, we create, use, and discard countless objects. However, what is thrown away is not merely waste — through art and a new perspective, it can become an opportunity to discover new value and potential.

Artist Fori Sim works with upcycling art, transforming discarded plastics and industrial waste into artworks infused with new life. Materials once deemed useless and abandoned are reimagined into robot-like forms filled with a childlike sensibility and fairy tale worldview. These lifeless robots serve as sculptural symbols representing emotion and vitality in the artist’s work. By preserving the inherent textures and structures of the materials while employing bold colors and three-dimensional compositions, Sim’s work goes beyond simple recycling to achieve a visual transformation. The sculptures, bearing traces of industrial waste, restructure post-consumer materials and reveal new possibilities for matter. By turning the familiar into a point of transformation, the artist poses visual questions about the environment and presents new alternatives.

This exhibition visualizes the process of discarded objects being reborn as lively entities through sensory structure and imagination. It invites viewers to reexamine the everyday items they once overlooked and questions the role of art in fostering a more sustainable life.
