디지털 기술이 감정과 관계의 구조마저 재편하는 시대, 배수영 작가는 예술을 통해 생명과 정서, 그리고 연결의 감각을 회화적으로 해석한다. 회화, 설치, 조각, 퍼포먼스를 넘나들며 감각과 공간, 감정의 관계에 주목해 온 작가는 이번 전시에서 그간 구축해온 조형 언어 중 회화적 구성에 집중하여, 감정과 기술, 연결의 개념을 다각도로 접근한다.

<희망의 노래>는 전자회로로 구성된 작은 하트들이 다시 커다란 심장과 ‘HOPE’라는 문구를 형성하는 구조를 갖는다. 기술의 언어 안에 감정의 상징을 담아낸 이 화면은, 현대인의 복잡한 관계망을 닮은 유기적 구조 속에서 감정의 흐름을 되살린다. 회로의 일부가 손상되면 전체가 영향을 받듯, 이 작업은 인간 사이의 긴밀한 연결성과 상호의존을 암시한다. <Seven Rhapsody>는 치유의 장면을 일곱 개의 단락으로 분할해 구성하며, <Digital Heart_오방색>은 전통 색채와 디지털 이미지가 맞닿는 접점에서 새로운 감각적 조형성을 제안한다. <벤치 위에 앉은 ‘또마’>는 상징적 조형물로 기능하며, 공공의 공간에서 정서적 접촉을 유도하는 존재로 자리한다.

전시 후반부에 추가되는 <Sunflowers>와 <희망의 노래> 연작은 감정의 회복, 자연과 상생이라는 주제를 반복과 집합, 확장의 회화적 형식으로 이어간다. 이미지와 구조, 감정의 질감이 중첩된 이 화면들은 희망이라는 정서를 다시 응시하게 만든다.

《HOPE》는 빠르게 재편되는 세계 속에서 예술이 감정과 연결의 감각을 어떻게 회복할 수 있을지를 시각적으로 탐색한다.이번 전시를 통해 기술과 감정, 개인과 공동체 사이의 균형을 다시 바라보는 계기가 되기를 바란다.

In an era where digital technology reshapes even the structures of emotion and human connection, artist Soo Young Bae offers a painterly interpretation of life, sentiment, and the sense of interconnectedness through her art. Having explored the relationships between sensation, space, and emotion across painting, installation, sculpture, and performance, Bae now returns to the pictorial language she has long developed, focusing on the structure of painting to examine themes of emotion, technology, and connection from multiple angles.

The work Song of Hope is composed of tiny heart-shaped electronic circuits that together form a large heart and the word “HOPE.” This image, embedding emotional symbolism within the language of technology, revives the flow of emotion within an organic structure reminiscent of the complex web of modern human relationships. Just as a damaged part of a circuit affects the whole, the work suggests the deep interdependence and intimacy of human connections.

Seven Rhapsody unfolds scenes of healing across seven pictorial segments, while Digital Heart_Obangsaek introduces a new visual sensibility at the intersection of traditional Korean color theory and digital imagery. The sculptural figure Ttoma on the Bench functions as a symbolic object, inviting emotional engagement within public spaces.

Later additions to the exhibition, such as Sunflowers and the extended Song of Hope series, further develop themes of emotional recovery and coexistence with nature, rendered through pictorial forms of repetition, accumulation, and expansion. These works, where imagery, structure, and emotional texture overlap, compel us to gaze once more at the essence of hope.

HOPE is a visual inquiry into how art might restore emotion and the sense of connection in a rapidly restructured world. This exhibition invites viewers to reconsider the balance between technology and emotion, individual and community.
