개인의 기억과 감정은 어떤 형상으로 남을 수 있을까. Zoey(조이), 손우정, 심주하 세 작가는 각기 다른 회화적 언어를 통해 감정의 순간들을 시각적으로 떠올리게 한다. 익숙한 사물, 상상의 존재, 자연의 이미지 등 각자의 방식으로 포착된 장면들은 저마다의 시간과 정서를 품고 있으며, 정서적 밀도를 드러낸다.

Zoey는 특정 시대의 사물에 축적된 감정과 기억의 흔적을 통해 시간의 층위를 회화로 풀어낸다. 그의 작업에 등장하는 형상들은 과거의 문화적 공감대를 환기하며, 홀로그램과 강렬한 색채를 통해 시각적 이질감과 정서를 동시적으로 발생시킨다. ‘노스텔지아’라는 개념은 단지 회고적 정서가 아닌, 현재를 구성하고 미래로 확장되는 감각적 계기이며, 그의 작품은 과거와 현재, 그리고 아직 오지 않은 시간의 감정을 하나의 화면 안에 병치한다.

손우정은 자전적 상상력을 바탕으로 회화 속 유토피아적 세계를 구성한다. 작품 속 반복적으로 등장하는 사슴뿔을 지닌 소녀는 작가 자아의 분신이며, 그 곁을 지키는 백호와 동물들은 관계적 감정의 형상이다. 그는 회화를 통해 현실을 대체하거나 재현하지 않고, 오히려 낯설고 낭만적인 질서를 감각적으로 구축한다. 신화적 이미지와 정서적 표상을 통해 손우정은 감정이 형상으로 전환되는 과정을 치밀하게 추적하고 있다.

심주하의 작업은 양귀비라는 자연의 상징을 통해 감정의 흔적을 화폭 위에 환원한다. 양귀비는 계절의 감각이자 자아의 표상으로, 그 중에서도 붉은 양귀비의 꽃말인 ‘위로’는 작가의 회화적 태도를 대변한다. 먹과 채색, 금분과 은분을 병용한 화면은 동양화의 전통성과 현대적 감각을 긴밀히 교차시키며, 물성과 정서, 상징과 감각의 층을 응축된 형식으로 조직한다. 양귀비를 반복적으로 배열한 평면은 단순한 자연의 재현이 아니라 감정의 밀도를 시각적으로 구축한 결과이다.

《Secret Moment》는 세 작가가 각자의 회화 언어로 감정과 기억의 순간을 포착하고, 그것을 동시대적 감각 속에서 다시 그려낸 형상이다. 삶의 내면에 깃든 감정의 흔적을 따라가는 작품들은 감각의 언어로 시대를 바라보는 또 하나의 방식을 제안한다.

What forms can personal memories and emotions take?

In Secret Moment, artists Zoey, Woojung Son, and Juha Shim each evoke emotional moments through distinct painterly languages. Familiar objects, imaginary beings, and natural imagery—captured in each artist’s unique way—carry their own temporal and emotional resonance, revealing a dense emotional texture.

Zoey translates layers of time into painting by tracing the emotions and memories embedded in objects from specific eras. The forms in her work recall shared cultural memories, while the use of holographic effects and bold colors generates both visual dissonance and emotional immediacy. Her concept of nostalgia is not merely retrospective but serves as a sensory catalyst that constitutes the present and projects into the future. Her works juxtapose emotions of the past, present, and not-yet-arrived time within a single canvas.

Woojung Son constructs a utopian world in her paintings grounded in autobiographical imagination. The recurring girl with antlers is a projection of the artist’s own identity, and the white tiger and surrounding animals symbolize emotional relationships. Rather than replicating or replacing reality, she builds a romantic and unfamiliar order through sensory experience. Mythical imagery and emotional representations serve as tools for Son to meticulously trace how feelings are transfigured into form.

Juha Shim distills traces of emotion onto the canvas through the symbolic motif of the poppy. Representing seasonal sensations and the self, the red poppy—whose flower language is “consolation”—embodies the artist’s painterly stance. Her use of ink, pigments, gold, and silver dust intertwines traditional East Asian techniques with contemporary sensibilities, layering materiality and emotion, symbolism and sensory experience into a condensed visual structure. Her repeated arrangements of poppies are not mere representations of nature but visual constructions of emotional density.

Secret Moment is a collective portrayal of emotion and memory, reimagined through each artist’s pictorial language and interpreted through a contemporary lens. These works, which follow the lingering traces of life’s inner emotions, offer a sensory language for viewing the present age.
