In today’s contemporary art landscape, boundaries between genres and mediums are fluid, allowing artists to reconstruct scenes from everyday life through diverse visual languages. Kwon Shinhong’s solo exhibition, 《HAVE A NICE DAY!》, explores how visual art can imbue ordinary actions with new sensations and meanings—particularly through an unexpected fusion of art and sports.

In this exhibition, Kwon takes old age as his central theme—not through the lens of conventional, passive imagery, but by reimagining aging with dynamism and vitality. Rather than portraying decline, he visualizes a spirited phase of life still full of presence and agency. With vibrant colors, bold forms, and figures swinging golf clubs with force, old age becomes a portrait of the present—a time alive with energy. Central to this concept is the “BOY, GIRL” series, especially the piece “OLD BOY,” which encapsulates Kwon’s playful perspective and refined aesthetic strategy. By calling grandfathers and grandmothers “boy” and “girl,” he humorously subverts fixed ideas about aging. These figures embody the daily rhythms and personalities of the elderly, blurring generational divides and emphasizing attitude and individuality over age.

Kwon also incorporates the fashion world’s seasonal terms—“SS/FW” (Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter)—into his artwork titles, suggesting that aging, like fashion, can evolve and express itself through different cycles. He reframes aging not as a static decline, but as a fluid, sensory way of living.

The title 《HAVE A NICE DAY!》 echoes a casual everyday greeting, while also recalling the joyful exclamation “Nice shot!” heard on the golf course. This dual meaning reflects the artist’s view of aging as not the end, but another peak of existence. An elderly figure sending a golf ball soaring under a clear sky becomes a symbol of vibrant, present-day life—calling attention to joy, motion, and sensory liberation.

More than portraiture, this exhibition reveals how contemporary art can reshape societal perceptions and emotions around aging.
