강동현 작가는 ‘공존의 숲’을 주제로 자연과 생명, 그리고 그 사이를 잇는 관계망을 시각화한다. 스테인리스 스틸을 용접해 구축한 그물망 형태의 구조물은 안과 밖, 비어 있음과 채워짐의 경계를 허물며, 생명 간의 순환과 응집을 은유적으로 담아낸다. 생명은 단일한 존재가 아닌 서로를 품고 이어가는 과정이며, 작가는 이를 동물 형상과 숲의 이미지를 통해 구현한다. 그의 작업은 유기적 연결과 조화 속에서 생명의 본질을 탐구하며, 인간과 자연 사이의 관계를 다시 바라보게 한다.

손정기 작가의 작품은 광활한 자연 속에 존재하는 작고 고요한 인간의 모습을 통해 내면의 침묵과 사색을 이끌어낸다. 흑백에 가까운 단색조의 풍경은 외로움과 고요를 품은 채, 바라보는 이로 하여금 감각의 층을 차분히 누적하게 만든다. 눈 덮인 숲, 수평선을 향해 걷는 인물의 모습은 단순한 묘사를 넘어, ‘어떻게 살아가야 하는가’라는 삶의 본질적 물음을 던진다. 작가는 이 고요한 풍경 속에 고독과 명상의 시간을 제안하며, 관람자가 스스로의 내면을 응시하는 여정을 시작하길 바란다.

태우 작가는 중국 고대 산수화 이론가 종병의 “와유(臥遊)” 사상을 현대적으로 해석해, 유쾌하고 해학적인 시선으로 풀어낸다. 와유는 ‘누워서 유람하다’는 뜻으로, 작가는 이 사상에서 정신적 해방감을 발견하고 이를 일상의 즐거움으로 전환한다. 화면 속 ‘눕새’와 ‘호랑이’는 각각 아내와 자신을 상징하며, 이들 도상은 꽃밭과 정물 풍경 속에서 자유롭고 따뜻하게 배치된다. 자연을 유람하는 대신 일상에서 감각의 자유를 누리는 태도는 작가의 철학이자, 회화 속에서 실현된 정신적 낙원이다.

《MONOGREEN》은 세 작가가 자연을 매개로 구축한 서로 다른 조형적 접근을 통해, 인간과 세계를 바라보는 감각의 폭을 확장한다. 각기 다른 시선과 태도로 표현된 작업들은 공존과 사유, 유희와 침묵이라는 주제를 동시대 미술의 언어로 풀어내며, 자연을 해석하는 다채로운 예술적 가능성을 제시한다.

《MONOGREEN》 is an exhibition that explores the multilayered relationships between nature and humanity, interiority and the external world, stillness and play, through the distinct visual languages of three artists: Kang Donghyun, Sohn Jeongki, and Taewoo. Within a unified tonal palette, the differing sensibilities of coexistence, silence, and humor resonate, as each artist interprets the common theme of nature from a completely different perspective and narrative.

Kang Donghyun visualizes networks of nature and life under the theme of “Forest of Coexistence.” His mesh-like structures, welded from stainless steel, dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside, emptiness and fullness, metaphorically capturing the circulation and cohesion of living things. Life, in his view, is not a singular entity but a continuous process of mutual embrace and connection. Through animal forms and forest imagery, his works explore the essence of life in harmony and interconnection, prompting a reconsideration of the relationship between humans and nature.

Sohn Jeongki’s work evokes inner silence and contemplation through the depiction of small, quiet human figures set within vast landscapes. Rendered in near-monochrome tones, his scenes—such as snow-covered forests or solitary figures walking toward the horizon—convey loneliness and serenity. These images move beyond mere representation to pose fundamental questions about existence: “How should we live?” In these quiet landscapes, the artist invites viewers into moments of solitude and meditation, offering a journey inward.

Taewoo reinterprets the ancient Chinese concept of “Wayu” (臥遊), or “lying down to wander,” with a modern, humorous twist. He finds in this philosophy a sense of spiritual liberation and translates it into scenes of everyday joy. His recurring figures—the “lying bird” and the “tiger,” symbolizing his wife and himself—are playfully and warmly placed in still-life compositions and flower-filled landscapes. Rather than wandering through nature, he embraces the freedom of the senses in daily life, creating a mental paradise through his paintings that reflects his artistic philosophy.

《MONOGREEN》 expands the spectrum of perception through each artist’s unique sculptural approach to nature. Their works—expressed in contemporary artistic language—explore coexistence, reflection, play, and silence, presenting diverse possibilities for interpreting nature through art.
