도영 김성자, 헬렌킴

도영 김성자와 헬렌 킴, 두 작가는 각기 다른 예술적 접근을 통해 인간과 삶, 그리고 시대를 해석하는 고유한 시선을 제시한다. 전통과 현대, 동양과 서양의 조형 언어가 교차하는 이들의 작업은 서로 다른 배경과 철학을 바탕으로 하면서도 공통적으로 인간 내면의 정서와 사회적 메시지를 담아낸다.

도영 김성자는 문인화의 사유와 수양의 철학에 근거하여, 예술을 인격 수련의 수단으로 삼고 동양적 자연관과 삶의 이치를 화폭에 담아낸다. 필선 하나하나에 담긴 절제와 응축은 자연과 조화를 이루는 정신적 태도를 반영하며, 이를 통해 개인을 넘어 공동체적 가치와 시대적 화합을 염원한다.

헬렌 킴은 강렬하고 풍부한 색채를 중심으로 관계와 감정, 사랑과 평화의 가치를 시각화한다. 그녀의 회화는 유기적이고 감각적인 구성 안에서 감정의 교류를 표현하며, 색과 형태가 함께 만들어내는 이미지들은 정서적 공감을 이끌어내는 매개가 된다. 인간 간의 연결성과 따뜻한 연대감에 대한 작가의 지속적인 탐구가 돋보인다.

이번 전시가 두 작가가 각자의 방식으로 구축한 조형 언어를 통해 인간과 시대를 바라보는 시선을 공유하고, 예술이 지닌 본질적인 가치와 역할에 대해 다시 생각해보게 하는 기회가 되길 바란다.

Do-Young Kim Sungja and Helen Kim each present a distinct artistic vision that interprets humanity, life, and the spirit of their time through different aesthetic approaches. Their works intersect traditional and contemporary modes, Eastern and Western visual languages, offering contrasting yet resonant perspectives rooted in their individual backgrounds and philosophies. Both artists, in their own way, explore emotional depth and convey social messages grounded in the human condition.

Do-Young Kim Sungja draws from the contemplative tradition of muninhwa—an ink painting practice rooted in scholarly introspection and personal cultivation. Viewing art as a means of moral and spiritual discipline, she reflects Eastern philosophies of nature and the principles of life on the canvas. Each brushstroke is infused with restraint and intention, embodying a meditative harmony with the natural world. Her work transcends individual expression, aspiring toward communal values and collective harmony in an age often marked by dissonance.

Helen Kim, by contrast, builds her visual language through vivid, emotionally charged color palettes and sensuous compositions. Her works express the dynamics of human connection—relationships, emotions, love, and peace—through fluid forms and radiant tones. The interplay of color and shape becomes a vessel for emotional resonance, evoking empathy and inviting viewers into a shared emotional experience. Her ongoing exploration of human interconnection and the warmth of solidarity is central to her practice.

This exhibition invites reflection on how two artists—through distinct formal vocabularies—articulate their perspectives on humanity and the times we live in. It offers an opportunity to revisit the essential value and role of art: as a bridge between self and society, emotion and thought, tradition and modernity.
