조이(ZOEY) 개인전

조이(ZOEY)의 회화는 과거의 문화와 기억을 담은 오브제를 중심으로, 시간의 감각과 정서적 반응을 탐구한다. 작품 속 오브제는 특정 시기의 대중문화와 정서가 응축된 것으로, 각자의 기억 속에 자리했던 개인적이면서도 집단적인 향수를 떠올리게 한다. 이는 더 이상 돌아갈 수 없는 과거에 대한 아쉬움이 축적되고 미화된 감정으로 작용하며, 과거와 현재, 나아가 미래까지 아우르는 감각적 지형을 구성한다. 작가는 실제 존재했던 오브제나 익숙한 형상들을 회화 속에 차용하지만, 그것들은 단순한 재현이 아닌 회화적 재구성과 해체의 과정을 거쳐 재탄생한다. 색채와 구도의 자유로운 배치는 현실과 허구, 기억과 상상이 교차하는 장면을 만들며, 이를 통해 시간의 흐름과 감정의 밀도를 화면에 축적한다.

ZOEY’s paintings center on objects imbued with cultural memory, exploring the emotional and temporal resonances they carry. These objects—drawn from specific moments in popular culture—evoke a collective nostalgia that is both deeply personal and broadly shared. Infused with the moods and sentiments of a bygone era, they speak to a longing for the irretrievable past, a longing that becomes romanticized and layered over time. Through this, the artist constructs a sensory landscape that bridges past, present, and even hints of the future.

Though ZOEY borrows from real, familiar forms—objects that once tangibly existed—her works are not straightforward reproductions. Instead, they undergo a painterly process of reconstruction and deconstruction, emerging as reimagined icons. Her fluid use of color and composition blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction, memory and imagination. In this way, time is not simply depicted but accumulated across the canvas—alongside the emotional weight it carries.

This exhibition revisits the “images of memory” that ZOEY has long pursued, drawing attention to the emotional traces that linger within them. Through painting, she retraces sensory time, confronts past emotions, and engages in both a record and reinterpretation of things that are fading away. Her work goes beyond restoration—it offers new interpretations and sensory experiences, inviting viewers to reflect on how the past continues to shape our perceptions of the present.
