거대한 바위에 풍화작용이 만들어낸 점들이 상흔처럼 각인된다. 강가의 수양버들은 허공에서 유희하는 선을 만들며 한들거린다. 캔버스 위 무위자연의 점과 선은 끝없이 반복되는 지독한 노동의 과정이다. 그렇게 질료가 그물망처럼 쌓아 올려져 점이 찍히고, 선이 연결되고, 면이 펼쳐지며 생성과 소멸로 순환시키는 수행의 시간이 만들어진다. 여기에는 회화의 순수 조형을 구현하려는 작가의 의지가 중첩된다.

작가의 작업은 지층처럼 쌓아 올린 물감으로, 손끝에서 나오는 시간의 흐름 속 집념이다. 작품에서 노동의 가치는 크다. 반복되는 과정에서 안료를 쌓는 연속적인 과정은 수행이고 상념이며 삶을 성찰하는 태도이다. 이러한 과정에서 자연스럽게 사유가 개입된다. 작가는 삶 역시 물성이 쌓여 이루어지는 억겁의 시간이라고 말한다.

인생에서 소중한 것은 순간적이다. 순간이 쌓이는 하루하루가 과정이며, 모든 것은 과정밖에 없는 삶이다. 그렇게 성찰하는 시간으로 몇 번의 밤을 지새우고, 적막한 공간에서 침묵하듯 잠자듯 시간이 흐른 후 어느 날 담이 하나 세워져 있다. 결국에는 시간의 굴레 속에서 드러나는 축적된 형상이다.

계속되는 삶의 과정에서 상실과 상처로 얼룩져 버린다. 무엇으로 상처받은 영혼을 위로할 수 있을까. 미덥지 못한 감정의 변덕이 우리를 얼마나 많이 넘어트렸는가. 인간의 느끼는 세계 너머에 있는 또 다른 세계인 예술의 세계에서, 결국 마주하는 것은 자신의 거울 같은 내적 심미안이다. 작가는 심연의 깊은 곳을 치유하고 어떤 행복감을 흡수하길 바란다.

김병구 작가의 개인전 ‘Time of accumulation’은 헤드비갤러리에서 2월 26일까지 만나볼 수 있다.

The dots created by weathering are imprinted on the huge rock like scars. The willows of the river shake, creating lines that play in the air. The dots and lines of inaction nature on the canvas are a process of intense labor that is repeated endlessly. In this way, the material is stacked like a mesh to create a time of practice that draws dots, connects lines, spreads out, and circulates into creation and extinction. This overlaps the artist's will to realize the pure formation of painting.

The artist's work is a layer of paint that is piled up like a stratum, and it is a focus in the passage of time coming out of the fingertips. The value of labor in the work is great. The continuous process of stacking pigments in the repetitive process is performance, thought, and an attitude of reflecting on life. In this process, thinking is naturally involved. The artist says that life is also a time of despair when physical properties are accumulated.

What is precious in life is the moment. Every day that moments accumulate is a process, and everything is a life that only has a process. A wall is built one day after several nights as if sleeping in silence in a quiet space. In the end, it is an accumulated image that is revealed in the bondage of time.

In the process of continuing life, it is stained with loss and wound. How can we comfort a wounded soul? How much the fickle of unreliable emotions has fallen over us. In the world of art, another world beyond the world of human feeling, what we eventually face is the inner sorry like a mirror. The artist wants to heal the deep part of the abyss and absorb a certain sense of happiness.

Kim Byung-koo's solo exhibition "Time of Accumulation" will be available until Feb. 26 at Hedwig Gallery.
