이효연, 이흙

《유연한 유영》은 서로 다른 방식으로 삶의 여백을 탐색하는 두 작가, 이효연과 이흙의 시선이 교차하는 전시이다. 두 작가는 고정된 세계를 단단하게 응시하기보다, 유연하게 받아들이고 유영하듯 흘러가며, 우리가 머무를 수 있는 감각의 공간을 그려낸다.

이효연 작가는 현실과 비현실이 겹쳐지는 풍경 속에서 상상의 가능성을 탐색한다. 구체적인 지명을 배제한 공간 위로 어디선가 본 듯한 식물과 사물이 등장하고, 그 안의 존재들은 날씨나 시간의 흐름과 무관하게 각자의 호흡으로 살아간다. 다름이 함께 머무는 풍경은 단순한 이상향이 아니라, 작가가 삶 속에서 발견한 믿음과 위로의 표상이다. 삶에 정답이 없고 질문 또한 다양하다는 사실에서 출발한 화면은, 경직된 사고 대신 유연한 사고를 통해 오롯이 삶을 마주하는 방식을 제시한다.

이흙 작가는 구름을 통해 개인의 기억과 사회적 감각, 자연과 욕망이 겹쳐지는 장면을 조형화한다. 작가에게 하늘은 단순한 배경이 아니라, 유년의 감각과 현재의 삶이 교차하는 다층적인 시공간이다. 토끼 구름, 상어 구름, 익숙한 동물 형상들이 유영하는 화면은 순수하면서도 아이러니한 시선을 품고 있다. 작가는 일상의 무게를 잠시 내려놓고, 다시 앞으로 나아갈 수 있는 희망의 틈을 구름 사이에 남긴다. 유영하는 이미지 속에서 우리는 다시 숨을 고르고, 관용과 화해의 가능성을 마주하게 된다.

이효연과 이흙의 작업은 저마다의 방식으로 흐름과 관계, 고요한 사유의 시간을 회화적 언어로 제시한다. 《유연한 유영》은 잠시 멈춰 선 이들에게 말 건네듯 다가와, 삶에 내재된 유연함과 흐름의 미학을 다시금 떠올리게 만든다. 이 전시가 우리가 걸어온 궤적을 부드럽게 비추며, 다시 걸음을 내딛는 온전한 시간으로 이어지기를 바란다.

Flexible Drift is an exhibition where the perspectives of two artists, Hyoyoun Lee and Heuk Lee, converge in their respective explorations of the margins of life. Rather than fixating rigidly on a set world, both artists embrace fluidity—drifting with lightness and openness to create sensory spaces in which we might rest.

Hyoyoun Lee explores the potential of imagination through landscapes where reality and unreality intertwine. Her works depict familiar-looking plants and objects that appear in undefined, placeless spaces, inhabited by beings who exist at their own pace—untouched by the flow of time or weather. These scenes, where difference coexists peacefully, are not utopian ideals, but expressions of belief and comfort the artist has discovered through life. Her canvases begin from the idea that there are no fixed answers in life, and that questions are as varied as individuals. In doing so, she offers an approach to life grounded in flexible, rather than rigid, thinking.

Heuk Lee, on the other hand, shapes scenes where personal memory, social awareness, nature, and desire overlap—through the motif of clouds. For the artist, the sky is not just a backdrop, but a layered realm where the sensations of childhood meet the realities of the present. Clouds resembling rabbits, sharks, and other familiar animal forms drift across her canvases, blending innocence with a subtle irony. These playful yet poignant images create a quiet interlude from the weight of daily life, leaving a hopeful space between the clouds. Within this drifting imagery, viewers are invited to pause, take a breath, and rediscover the possibilities of compassion and reconciliation.

Through distinct yet complementary approaches, both artists express movement, connection, and moments of introspection through painterly language. Flexible Drift gently reaches out to those who have momentarily paused, reminding us of the inherent fluidity of life and the quiet beauty of its flow. May this exhibition softly illuminate the paths we have walked, guiding us toward a renewed sense of wholeness as we take our next step forward.
