박발륜 작가는 현실과 비현실, 입체와 평면, 감각과 인식 사이에 놓인 지점에서 조형 언어를 구축한다. 작업 구상과 추상의 경계를 넘나들며, 우리가 익숙하게 인식해온 형태와 의미를 낯설게 재구성한다. 

작가는 데포름(deform)된 형식을 통해 형태를 단순화하거나 왜곡하고, 그것을 거대하고 유머러스하게 부풀린 풍선 형상으로 구현한다. 이러한 시각적 변형은 단순한 형태 실험을 넘어, 사물에 내재된 고정된 의미를 해체하고 새로운 해석을 유도하는 열린 조형 구조를 형성한다. 풍선화된 형상은 공허함과 충만함, 무게감과 부유감이라는 양가적 감각을 동시에 품고 있으며, 자기 발견의 여정을 상징하는 동시에 인간 존재 안에 내재된 잃어버린 유토피아를 상기시키는 조형적 은유로 작동한다. 작업 노트에서 “동물과 다른 인간의 특징은 생존 너머의 새로움을 추구하는 데 있다”고 말한다. 이처럼 작업은 단순한 형태 실험을 넘어, 현실 너머를 상상하고 확장하려는 정신에서 출발한다. 왜곡과 변형, 확대와 확장을 통해 구축된 조형 언어는 고정 관념에서 벗어나 개념과 인지의 경계에 유연하게 접근하며, 새로운 조형적 사고를 이끌어낸다.

이번 전시는 동시대 조형 예술이 감각과 사유의 방식으로 현실을 어떻게 재구성할 수 있는지를 사유하게 한다. 경쾌한 풍선 형상 너머에 내재된 철학적 질문과 시각적 실험은, 조형 언어가 지닌 유연성과 잠재력을 다시금 환기시키며, 익숙한 세계를 다른 시선으로 바라보게 하는 전환의 계기가 되길 바란다.

Artist Ballon Park constructs a sculptural language that exists at the threshold between reality and unreality, three-dimensional and two-dimensional space, sensation and perception. His work fluidly moves between figuration and abstraction, reconfiguring familiar forms and meanings into unfamiliar, thought-provoking visual experiences.

Park employs deformed forms—simplified or distorted shapes—rendered as large, balloon-like structures filled with humor and exaggeration. These visual transformations go beyond mere formal experimentation, instead dismantling fixed meanings and inviting open-ended interpretation. The inflated forms embody a duality of emptiness and fullness, weight and lightness, serving as sculptural metaphors for a journey of self-discovery and a reminder of a lost utopia embedded within human existence. In his notes, the artist writes, “What distinguishes humans from animals is the pursuit of novelty beyond survival.” His work, therefore, begins with an imaginative spirit that seeks to transcend reality.

Through distortion, transformation, enlargement, and expansion, Park’s sculptural language resists conventional thinking, exploring the boundaries of concept and perception with fluidity. His art encourages new modes of sculptural thought and interpretation.

This exhibition invites reflection on how contemporary sculptural art can reconstruct reality through modes of sensation and contemplation. The philosophical inquiries and visual experimentation embedded in Park’s balloon-like forms highlight the flexibility and potential of sculptural language—prompting viewers to see the familiar world through a transformed lens.
