작가는 ‘기억’, ‘시선’, ‘경배’, ‘꽃’이라는 네 가지 주제를 중심으로 작업을 전개해왔다. ‘기억’ 시리즈는 또렷하게 떠오르지 않아도 깊은 향수로 남은 과거의 순간들을 흩어진 조각처럼 화면에 담아낸다. ‘시선’ 시리즈는 단색의 화면 위에 돌출된 눈 형상을 통해 현대인이 끊임없이 노출된 사회적 시선을 형상화한다. 그리고 ‘경배’ 시리즈는 작가가 처음 붓을 잡게 된 계기에서 출발한 가장 내밀한 작업으로, 유혹과 시련을 통과하며 평온을 찾고자 했던 진솔한 자기 고백이 화면 위에 응축되어 있다.

이내의 작업은 회화의 물성과 시간성, 감정의 결을 동시에 탐색하며, 시각 예술이 감정을 환기하는 방식에 대한 깊은 고찰을 담고 있다. 금빛으로 물든 화면은 찬란하면서도 절제된 감정을 머금고 있으며, 각자가 쌓아온 기억과 감정을 섬세하게 드러낸다.

이번 전시는 이내 작가의 사적인 기록을 넘어, 각자 자신의 시간과 감정을 되짚어보게 하는 제안한다. 금빛으로 물든 화면 위에 얹힌 삶의 흔적은 우리의 기억을 불러일으키며 새로운 감정의 결을 만들어낸다.

“Drenched in Gold: The Works of Lee Nae” presents the delicate landscapes of emotion and reflection that the artist Lee Nae has accumulated over time, condensed through the painterly method of “layering.” Rather than the brilliance of the surface, Lee Nae focuses on the depth of time and feeling embedded beneath, expressing sincerity through visually restrained compositions.

Centered on four key themes—Memory, Gaze, Devotion, and Flower—the artist’s work unfolds with emotional nuance.

The “Memory” series captures fragments of the past—moments that may no longer be clear, yet linger with deep nostalgia—scattered across the canvas like pieces of recollection.

The “Gaze” series portrays the social gaze imposed on modern individuals through protruding eye motifs on monochromatic surfaces, reflecting constant exposure in contemporary society.

The “Devotion” series is Lee Nae’s most personal body of work, stemming from the very reason she first picked up a brush. It offers a sincere confession of her journey through temptation and trial in search of peace.

Lee Nae’s practice probes the materiality and temporality of painting as well as the texture of emotion, presenting a meditative inquiry into how visual art can evoke feeling. The gold-tinted surfaces carry a luminous yet restrained emotional tone, delicately revealing layers of memory and sentiment.

This exhibition invites viewers to go beyond the personal narratives of the artist and revisit their own inner landscapes of time and emotion. The traces of life embedded in the gold-washed canvases awaken memory and generate new textures of feeling.
