김병구 개인전

김병구 작가의 작업은 반복과 축적을 기반으로 한 수행의 기록이다. 화면 위에 찍히는 점과 연결되는 선은 단순한 조형이 아니라, 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 쌓아 올린 노동의 흔적이며, 집중과 절제, 훈련의 과정을 통과한 물질적 시간의 증거다. 작가는 물질을 쌓고 파고들며, 형상을 구축하고 해체한다. 그 과정은 감정이나 해석 이전에 철저히 물성에 응답하는 태도이며, 회화의 본질을 묻는 지속적인 탐구이다.

The work of Byungkoo Kim is a record of discipline, grounded in repetition and accumulation. The dots stamped and lines extended across the canvas are not merely formal elements—they are tangible traces of labor built up over long stretches of time, embodying focus, restraint, and physical commitment. In Kim’s practice, forms are built and unbuilt through acts of layering and excavation. This process is not driven by emotion or interpretation, but by a resolute responsiveness to materiality—a sustained inquiry into the very essence of painting.

Through the repeated gestures of dotting and drawing, Kim places the act of marking at the center of his work. Each surface, hardened through concentration and countless iterations, becomes a dense record of time—an embodiment of the structure of being that the artist has endured. For Kim, life itself is a process of accumulation: moments pass, gather, vanish, and continue in a cyclical rhythm. Within that rhythm, painting exists. The resulting surfaces, shaped through prolonged solitude and silence, respond with coarse textures and condensed density, as if to assert the artist’s presence. For him, art is not an object of contemplation but a condition of life—an active engagement with doubt, anxiety, and the recurring scars of time. Kim’s paintings are the outcomes of such rigorous inquiry and perseverance.

This exhibition offers a focused look into the accumulated visual language that Kim Byungkoo has cultivated over decades.
